Compatibility and shared expectations
Similar interests are useful, but your plans and relationship preferences matter too.
Talk about the connection you want
Discuss whether you are looking for a relationship, occasional dates or another arrangement. Do not assume that an interest in pegging means someone wants the same pace, exclusivity or level of involvement as you. Give an honest answer even when it might reveal a difference.
Consider everyday compatibility
Availability, distance, communication style and existing commitments can affect a connection. Ask what a realistic rhythm would look like for each of you. If other relationships are involved, discuss relevant agreements without asking someone to reveal another person’s private information.
Revisit your understanding
Expectations can change as you get to know each other. Check whether your original understanding still fits rather than relying on a conversation from weeks ago. If your wishes diverge, you can acknowledge that without blaming anyone or trying to persuade them into a different relationship.
