Talking about boundaries and consent
Clear questions and freely given answers help you understand one another.
Make space for a real choice
Discuss what each of you wants, does not want and is uncertain about without treating the conversation as a negotiation to overcome a refusal. A person should be able to say no, ask for time or change the subject without pressure or a penalty.
Keep agreements specific
Consent to one step does not cover every later step. Exchanging messages, sharing a photo and meeting in person are separate choices. Ask rather than assume, and check again when plans change. An earlier yes does not prevent someone from changing their mind.
Respond with respect
If someone hesitates or withdraws agreement, stop and give them space. Do not use a shared interest, a previous conversation or the effort spent arranging a date as a reason to continue. Compatibility includes how you handle limits, not just what you hope to share.
